Πληθυσμός: 1630 οικογένειες (7690 άτομα) σε 14 χωριά και συνοικισμούς που αποτελούν 9 κοινότητες: Σκάλα, Λεημόνας, Έλος, Στεφανιά, Βλαχιώτη, Αστερίου, Γλυκόβρυση, Μυρτιά, Τσάσι. Τρεις πρώτοι καλλιεργούν σχεδόν αποκλειστικά βαμβάκι, υπόλοιποι ποικιλία καλλιεργειών. Καλλιέργειες πεδιάδα: βαμβάκι 30,000 στρ εκ των οποίων 10,000 ποτιστικά, σιτηρά 22,000 στρ., δενδρώδεις καλλιέργειες 21,000 στρ εξ ών 18,800 στρ. ελαιόδενδρα, 700 συκιές και αμυγδαλιές, 500 εσπεριδοειδή, 1000 αμπέλια, 3,500 στρ σανοί, κηπουρικά 1300 στρ και 750 ψυχανθή. Η καλλιέργεια κτηνοτροφικών φυτών είναι μικρή διότι πρόσφατα έχει επεκταθεί η βαμβακοκαλλιέργεια λόγω καλών τιμών διάθεσης. Σιτάρι καλλιεργείται μέσα στους ελαιώνες καθώς και σε ασκεπείς εκτάσεις καλλιεργούμενες “κατά κανόνα εντός της αυτής καλλιεργητικής περιόδου και δια βάμβακος, τελεί υπό συνθήκας δυσμενείς, καθ'όσον ευρίσκεται εκτεθειμένη εις τας συχνάς πλημμύρας του ποταμού Ευρώτα, εξ ου και συνήθης η αποτυχία της καλλιεργείας ταύτης.” Έτσι καταστρέφεται και το άχυρο, που ανατιμάται λόγω ανεπαρκούς ποσότητας.
